Sanctuary Reef is an Aquarian settlement built around the idea that preservation applies to people as well as books and ecosystems. Demians fleeing persecution, discarded Mutamons, political refugees, wounded travelers, endangered scholars, and people who simply have nowhere else to go can sometimes find protection here.
The settlement contains extensive air chambers, clinics, laboratories, gardens, and workshops adapted for non-Aquarian bodies. It is also an excellent example of Aquarian kindness becoming socially exhausting. Residents are safe, fed, and treated with dignity, while being surrounded by researchers who are always one polite request away from asking a deeply inappropriate anatomical question.
