Valesse was built as a city of courts, diplomacy, artistic patronage, and elite residences. It contained archives of noble correspondence, military treaties, private collections, and objects acquired from nearly every people in An'kor.
The city fell quickly during the contraction of the shield and was evacuated unevenly. Aquarian scholars are especially interested in Valesse because old collectors may have unknowingly preserved copies of documents lost from the great underwater archives. Prosperiticers would also like their belongings back, which is a somewhat less academic motivation.
